Summary:

 

The fundamentals of writing in Government are essential to a successful career in the public service.  this course teaches the essential form, style and strategies to write effectively and properly in government.  The course covers basic and more advanced aspects of writing.  It is highly recommended for public servants who would like to improve their writing in government.
  

1. Essentials of Government Grammar

  

Proper grammar is essential for writing and communicating messages clearly and effectively within and outside government.  It is central to creating and broadcasting a professional image in the workplace and beyond.  This module focuses on sentence structure, word choice, punctuation and mechanics.  The instructor also spends considerable time emphasizing common grammatical errors and best grammar practices.  
 

2.  Plain Language Writing -- What You Need to Know

There is a strong movement today for plain language writing -- particularly as part of public sector accountability.  It's not enough to be an expert in your field if you are unable to communicate your expertise to others.  This session covers how to achieve plain language writing in your letters, emails, reports, briefing notes and more.  It teaches the underlying techniques required to elevate your writing communication in government.

 

3.  Writing Government Products Effectively

 

This module will teach participants the key factors and strategic considerations of writing professional products in government.  The session will cover essential elements for enhancing credibility, professional relationships and organizational image.
